Great show by Rido at Let It Roll in Prague last year.  Isn’t it time to promote an outdoor bass music festival in New Mexico??? So my heart beats somewhere below 60Hz DC…  Does yours?  Loud and low is better.  ;-)

What kind of idiot thinks it’s a good idea to advertise handguns on television?? The national AMC television network ran a commercial during prime time last night for Glock handguns.  It was disturbing, provocative, and irresponsible. While I think we’ve grossly misinterpreted the intent of our constitutional 2nd amendment, this is not a discussion of whether responsible citizens should have firearms – it’s a discussion of corporate media responsibility. Gun violence is a serious problem in the US, and it’s worsening rapidly.   Guns sold in the US are quickly slipping across the border into neighboring… Read Article →

At least Adrian Gomez and the Albuquerque Journal acknowledge that EDM exists. Crystal Method is certainly a legend of the genre – and I’m sure the show at Santa Ana Casino was good – but Albuquerque draws plenty of older acts who are legends of their respective genres. Gomez also covered the appearance of RL Grime who, at the other end of the historic spectrum, has only released a handful of recordings and barely begun having an impact on bass music and EDM. Like nearly every act in the genre, though, these guys are basically… Read Article →

How awesome is this?!?!  Six days before the ABQ show he’s dropped a fantastic new record!  I hope he plays the whole album tomorrow night! Yayy!  Yayy!  and more Yayy! Listen to the new album here!

I applaud Senator Bill O’Neill’s plan to include the homeless as a class of victims described under New Mexico’s law against hate crimes. I worry that hate crime legislation may tend to diminish the awfulness of violent crime, in general, and send a message that violent crimes committed against members of these special classes are somehow more heinous than the same exact crimes committed against non-members; but that might be topic for a different discussion. My greater concern over O’Neill’s proposal is that it doesn’t go far enough to address the real issue. We desperately… Read Article →

Lots of people have sleep difficulty and depression-like symptoms in the middle of winter.  Some are diagnosed with something called Seasonal Affective Disorder – and some of those are successfully treated with light therapy. There’s been some compelling research these last few years into the health impacts from our portable electronic devices (smartphones, e-readers, tablet computers) and LCD displays (computers and televisions).  One of the things researchers have discovered is that all of these devices emit much higher levels of white and blue light, and that high levels of white and blue light interrupt production of… Read Article →

Placitas Cafe is located on state highway 165 about halfway between Bernalillo and the village of Placitas.  It’s a quirky little dive full of people who all seem to know each other, and a menu with everything from hot dogs and gourmet salads to obvious local favorites – and the best green chile cheeseburger in the state.  Seriously.  The guys cooking don’t seem particularly interested in notoriety, so they don’t enter their food in the various competitions around the state; but their GCCB is dead-to-rights the best one you’ll find anywhere in New Mexico. Don’t… Read Article →
